【摘要】:ThisGlossaryisbasicallyarevisionofBS3455:1962'Glossaryoftermsusedinnuclearscience'but,aswillbeseen,thetitlehasbeenslightlyamended.Incarryingoutthisrevisionanattempthasbeenmadetorestrictthetermsdefinedtothoseusedchieflyorexclusivelyinnucleartechnology,togetherwiththosetermsusedinnuclearscience(andsometimesinotherbranchesofscience)whichareofgreatimportanceinnucleartechnologyorareusedinthatcontextwithslightlydifferentmeaningsfromtheirusualones.Thishasinvolvedcuttingoutsomeofthemoreacademictermspreviouslyincluded.Inaddition,termsoflimitedinterestsuchasthoseconcernedonlywiththeseparationofisotopes,togetherwithtermsconcernedwithcontrolledfusionreactions,havealsobeenomitted.Asaresult,theGlossaryhasbeenreducedinsizebutnot,itishoped,inusefulness,sinceitisintendedmainlyforthose(includingstudentsandteachers)interestedinthepracticalaspectsofnucleartechnologyandintheunderlyingtheory.Itisnotintended,forexample,fornuclearphysicistsorsolid-statephysicistsassuch.Attentionhas,therefore,beenconcentratedonsuchtopicsasreactorphysicsanddesign,reactormaterials,healthandsafety,andsimilaraspectsofnucleartechnology.SinceBS3455:1962waspublished,theworkonnuclearterminologycarriedoutbytheInternationalOrganizationforStandardizationhasmadesignificantprogressandhasbeentakenintoaccount.AdvicehasalsobeenobtainedfromTheBritishCommitteeonRadiationUnitsandMeasurementsontheradiologicalandradiobiologicaltermsincorporated.ThetermsinthisGlossaryarearrangedalphabeticallyinasingleseries.Whereatermisagroupofwords,forconveniencethetermmayalsobelistedalphabeticallybyotherthanitsfirstwordandtheredefined.ImportanttermsappearinginthedefinitionsareitalicizedwhentheyaredefinedelsewhereintheGlossary.Thebasicterms,e.g.electron,neutron,particle,photon,radiationandreactorare,generally,exceptionstothisrule.Usuallyatermisitalicizedonlythefirsttimeitappearsinadefinition.AtermisnotonlyitalicizedwhenitappearsintheformasenteredintheGlossary,butalsowhenitundergoesgrammaticalinflection:thusbecauseabsorptionoccursintheglossary,thewordsabsorbedandabsorbing,forexample,arealsoitalicized.note:*ISOStandard921:1972,'Nuclearenergyglossary'.
